Empowerments
Empowerments are meant to establish a special connection between the participant and the particular Buddhist deity. This can only be done through a highly-trained, fully empowered, authentic Lama in accordance with all the proper preparations and rituals. Receiving an Empowerment is like the planting of a seed. Properly cultivated with the right conditions, this seed will sprout and help you grow into the enlightened state of Buddhahood.
During the Empowerment, each participant’s three doors (body, speech, and mind) are purified of negativities and blessed individually. Thus there is a Body Initiation, a Speech Initiation and a Mind Initiation. In this way, the defilements of each of the three doors are purified and they are empowered to visualize the form of the Deity, to recite the Deity’s mantra and to meditate on the mind of the Deity. Participants receive the direct transmission of the mantra passed down in unbroken ancient lineage.
Kyabje Kalu Rinpoche taught that one can take an empowerment:
- With the intention of simply receiving blessings.
- With the intention of doing the associated practice at some future time.
- With the intention of beginning the regular associated practice immediately.

In addition to empowerments the tour also offers healing and purification rituals of Vajravidaran and Chay Drol:
The Tantric ritual of Vajravidaran will be the primary focus of private and group healings. Vajravidaran is a ritual of purification and has three stages: purification and removing of negativities; removing subtle negative imprints; and offering protection. First the Lama generates himself in the form of Vajravidaran. In this form he then instructs participants through visualizations and ritual. He pours radiant nectar and rays of light cleansing their body, speech and mind. Next the Lama takes the negative subtle imprints and transforms them into Inexhaustible Bliss. He will then summon the negative forces and will use the Bliss to appease them. The Lama then disperses the negative forces and instructs them not to return. Finally, the Lama creates a diamond-like impenetrable layer of light around and within the participant for protection. Click here for the mantra.
Chay Drol translates as “to make free of obstacles.” In keeping with it’s name, it is a ritual that helps to remove the obstacles that prevent one from achieving enlightenment. The ritual begins with the Lama generating himself in the form of a deity. He then places colored strings and pieces of cloth on various parts of the participant’s body. Through ritual, one’s negativities and obstacles are fused to the strings and pieces of cloth. The Lama will then use ‘Wisdom Weapons’ to cut the obstacles from the participant, thereby freeing them and opening the door to liberation.
